By Robin Thurston, MapMyFitness Co-founder and CEO
Today, we announced that MapMyFitness is being acquired by Under Armour. I’m so excited to share this news, because I firmly believe this partnership will further our efforts to create the most advanced and effective products for our community.
When we started this company in 2006 as a fitness mapping website to help runners and cyclists map, share and explore their world, we could only imagine how this idea could grow into a global community impacting millions of lives. We want to thank YOU for being a part of this.
We remain true to our humble beginnings, and in many ways still feel that we are just getting started – the future of connected fitness holds incredible things. Working together with Under Armour will rapidly accelerate our roadmap and allow us to create products and experiences that we could previously only dream of.
Under Armour and MapMyFitness share many common goals, and at the heart of this new relationship is a desire to help make all athletes better through passion, design and innovation.
Additionally, we share an open approach: we want to give our customers and members control over their experience and their data, and the freedom to choose which devices, smartphones, and products to use in their connected fitness journey.
We have high ambitions; together we are committed to building the most technologically advanced platform for Connected Fitness in the world. At the same time, we know that technology is only effective if it is useful in everyday life, and for that reason we are more focused than ever on providing an amazing user experience through our products.
Thank you for your support, and we hope you’re as excited as we are about the future of this community we’ve all built together.
Sincerely,
Robin
