Q: How do I connect my headphones to apps other than MapMy?
A: Your headphones can be used with other leading fitness apps that support bluetooth heart rate sensors. To enjoy your headphones with other apps ensure they are first turned on. Press and hold the center button on the inline microphone located below the right earpiece. It helps to have one of the ear inserts in your ear to listen to the audible voice prompts. If this is your first time using the headphones, the headphones will automatically go into search mode. You will hear the audible voice stating, “power on” followed by “looking for device”. You will see the LED light alternate between red and blue as it searches for the device. This light is located at the bottom of the inline mic. Make sure your device that you are attempting to connect to is in search mode. Within a few seconds the UA|HR Audio followed by a 6 digit code should appear on your discoverable devices. Once connected, you will hear the audible voice state, “audio connected.” When the headphones are connected, the LED light will display a blinking blue light. Now open your workout app that supports bluetooth heart rate sensors and follow that app's process for pairing a heart rate device. Your headphones will appear as UA|JBL HR followed by a 6 digit code.
Q:Where can I check my current heart rate?
A: There are multiple ways to check your heart rate (HR) while using your headphones both in and out of workouts. On the MapMy mobile app select the "UA Sync" icon in the upper right hand corner of the Track Workout screen. If your headphones are paired, they will appear under "My Recent Apps & Devices." Tap on "UA Sport Wireless Heart Rate" and you will see your headphones settings. Your current heart rate will appear under the headphones' image. You will hear your heart rate when using the headphones during a MapMy workout with audio coaching. While using with your UA Band during a workout your HR will be shown with your workout stats and will coordinate with the HR zone LED on the Band. You also can simply tap the UA logo on the RIGHT ear bud to hear the audible voice stating your heart rate reading.
Q: Where can I view detailed heart rate stats after I complete a workout with my headphones?
A: You can view stats from your past workouts by going to your Training dashboard and tapping the Workouts tab at the top right. Tap the workout you would like to view. Your average and peak heart rate, heart rate distribution through your training session, and a graph of your real-time heart rate, will all be shown.
Q: Can I customize my Heart Rate Zones?
A: In MapMy, you can customize your Heart Rate Zones by going to Settings > Heart Rate Zones > toggling off the "Calculate Using My Age" option > choosing your custom Heart Rate Zones.
Where is the Heart Rate sensor?
The sensor is located in the LEFT ear bud. The left enhancer will feature a cut out for the sensor and should be fully exposed.
How do I know if the Heart Rate sensor is in the correct position?
You will hear an audio prompt to readjust the position of the left ear piece stating “heart rate not detected, adjust ear bud position”. The sensor is also in the correct position when the green LED light is not visible from the outside of your ear.
Q: My headphones told me heart rate disconnected. How do I reconnect it?
A: Tap-hold on the right ear bud forcefully to reconnect heart rate. If this does not work, hold the middle button to turn off, then back on your headphones.
Q: How do I make sure to get the best heart rate reading and accuracy?
In order to ensure the best accuracy, it is important that you are using the proper size and the headphones securely fit in the ear. Please reference FAQ: How do I find the proper fit? to make sure you are wearing them correctly.
You should also make sure that the enhancers are properly installed on the ear buds so that material is fully stretched over the bud and the window for the heart rate (HR) sensor is not covered. Please reference FAQ: How do I switch enhancer sizes? for more guidance.
Once you've found your ideal size and ensure they're installed correctly, make sure the HR sensor is on. When it is on, you will see a green light on the LEFT ear bud and should hear the audio prompt stating, “Heart Rate sensor on”.
For best results, insert the earphone into your ear so that the green heart rate sensor on the LEFT ear bud is fully hidden inside the ear (behind your tragus). Double check that the ear bud is touching the back of the bowl of your ear for the most accurate signal - this is often times achieved by using the largest size that fits comfortably in your ear. Lastly, the ear loop should not be pushed backwards to align with arc of the ear perfectly; it is likely there will be negative space between the headphone loop and your ear.
You should hear the audible alert telling you if the ear bud needs to be adjusted if it is unable to retrieve a proper reading on your heart rate.
Heart Rate accuracy can vary depending on the type of exercise you are performing; it is recommended for steady state endurance-oriented activities to ensure best accuracy. While the technology is state-of-the-art, there are limitations that may cause some readings to be inaccurate under certain circumstances. These circumstances include physical characteristics, fit, and the type of activity as outlined above. The heart rate monitor data is not intended to be used for medical purposes, nor is it intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease or condition.
Q: How do you find the proper fit?
First, it is very important that you use the correct size enhancers (rubber tips). This headphone features the TwistLock technology that is uniquely designed to fit in the bowl of the ear (vs. inner ear). They may look bigger than traditional ear buds, but this design provides the most secure fit to ensure they never fall-out in the most active workouts.
To properly put them on, first make sure you have the Right and Left ear bud in the correct ear. The number to indicate the enhancer size is featured on the inside of the enhancer next to the large L or R (left ear, right ear).
Next, gently insert the enhancer into your ear with a forward motion towards the jaw, which should twist and lock the enhancer into place. After the enhancers are securely locked in the ear, we recommend wrapping the ear loop up and over the ear for the most comfortable fit. Please note, the ear loop should not be pushed backwards to align with arc of the ear perfectly; it is likely there will be negative space between the headphone and your ear.
The size 7 will be featured on the model; two smaller sizes (5 & 6) and one larger (8) will be included in the packaging. If you experience discomfort wearing the size 7, try the next size down. If you try a smaller size and the headphones fall out easily or the enhancer does not extend fully to the back of the bowl of the ear, you should try a bigger size.
If you’re unable to find a secure fit, one of our fit specialists can assist you with a different size or guidance on how to properly wear these headphones. For any questions or concerns regarding fit and sizing, please contact your local JBL Customer Support or please email us ua.jblsupport@harman.com.
Q: How do I switch the enhancer sizes?
The best way to remove the enhancer from the ear bud is to gently pull back the outer rim of the enhancer that is located around the base of the ear bud. When replacing the current enhancers with a different size, please make sure to align the funnel of the enhancer tip over the small speaker screen of the headphone casing. The LEFT enhancer will feature the square cut out that allows you to receive your Heart Rate reading. It is important that the small digital square on the ear bud is fully exposed and the enhancer cut out is placed around it and not over it. If the enhancer is not attached properly, you will hear the audible voice stating that it cannot receive an accurate reading on your heart rate and you will need to readjust the enhancer.
Q: What is the clip in the headphones box used for?
A: A clip has been included to help ensure the best fit and security of the headphones. Placing the clip on the audio cord and attaching to the top back of your shirt you should be able to twist your head right and left without the clip pulling your ear.
Q: If I have two or more Heart Rate devices connected to MapMy, how can I select my headphones to be used for my workout?

You will then hear the audible voice stating, “audio connected” followed by a blinking blue LED light located on the inline microphone indicating that it is now connected to a device.
