Live tracking is an MVP feature that allows other MapMyFitness users to track your progress while working out in real-time using a combination of GPS signal and cellular data. This feature requires a strong cellular signal and its reliability is dependent on a steady data connection. In areas with high cellular traffic or low signal, the feature may lapse.
Only the person wishing to be tracked needs to have our MVP membership. To view the person live tracking navigate to the app and simply select the "Live Tracking" tab. Any friends currently Live Tracking will be visible and broadcasting here. If you do not want to be tracked, you can turn off live tracking from the pre-workout menu after selecting the "Track Workout" option.
Please note, Live Tracking is only available in our mobile app, and that in order to view someone live tracking in our app, you cannot be actively recording a workout unless the friend is live tracking in your vicinity. MapMyFitness friends who are in the same geographic area will appear on the map while you record an activity.

Troubleshooting
In order for Live Tracking to work, you will need to ensure a few settings are correct. The tips below should allow the proper functioning of the tracking feature.
- Access your profile privacy settings and make sure your default privacy is set as public or friends: Privacy settings. Live tracking requires a public or friend's privacy setting depending on who you wish to be able to view your activity live. You will not be able to use this feature with your settings as private.
- Turn on cellular data and ensure you have a good signal.
- In order for the live tracking to work, you must be in motion.
- You cannot view your live activity from your own account. Users must be logged into a different account to view your workout from the "Live Tracking" tab in the app.
- If you'd like to live track someone, turn on push notifications. This will allow you to be notified when one of your friends begins a workout.
- Upgrade to the latest version of the app. Typically live tracking is optimized for the latest version.
- When recording, make sure your device has a clear line of sight to the sky so it has clear GPS and cellular signal.
- Allow up to five minutes for Live Tracking to begin working once your workout and movement have started. This gives the app time to use data to triangulate and broadcast your location.
