Q. What is the purpose of Gear Tracker?
A. Gear Tracker is a tool that helps you track how many miles you have put on your shoes. Much like the tires on your car, athletic shoes have a recommended average lifespan. After this lifespan, usually an average of 400 miles, the cushion and stability of the shoes degrades which often leads to injuries like shin splints and runner’s knee.
Gear Tracker helps notify you when it’s a good time to start looking for a new pair of shoes.
Q. Is Gear Tracker available on the app?
A. Yes, Gear Tracker is currently available for iPhone, Android, and our web users.
Q. What kind of gear can I add to Gear Tracker?
A. Currently, you can add your athletic shoes to track the amount of miles you walk, run or hike with them. You can add multiple pairs of shoes and select which ever one you use per each workout.
Q. How do I add shoes to Gear Tracker?
A. On web: Select Gear Tracker from the Home menu. From here, enter the brand of your shoes in the search bar. From the drop-down search for the exact model of your shoes - don’t worry about finding the exact color. Once you select your shoes, you should see the Add Shoes window to further customize your shoe details.
On mobile: Once on the Gear Tracker page, press "Add Gear" at the bottom of the screen. From here, enter the brand of your shoes in the search bar. Q. What if my shoes aren’t listed in the database?
A. We pull from the extensive Zappos.com inventory database, however, with millions of runners in the world there's sure to be millions of shoes! If you can't find yours, let us know so we can keep track of user suggestions.
Q. How do I log mileage on my shoes?
A. After adding your shoes to Gear Tracker, you now have the option to select them for your next workout.
Android: From the "Record Workout" screen, click on the gear in the upper right hand corner. When in the workout settings view, tap the gear tracker section to select the gear you want to use for this workout. Once you’ve selected your shoes, start recording your workout and your miles will be automatically subtracted from the lifespan of your shoes.

Q. If I recorded a workout but forgot to add my gear, is there a way to associate gear with my workout retroactively?
A. Yes; however, you will have to do this on our website. Please log into the site and visit www.mapmyfitness.com/workouts > select the workout of interest > click the orange "Edit" button. Once on the Edit Workout screen, you should be able to add gear to your workout. Be sure to click "Save" before navigating elsewhere!
Q. Can I add more than one pair of shoes to Gear Tracker?
A. Yes. From the Gear Tracker homepage, you can add multiple pairs of shoes from the Add Shoes tile.
Q. What happens when I retire my shoes?
A. Once you’ve reached the total lifespan of your shoes or if you’ve added a pair you no longer use, you can opt to retire them. Retiring shoes simply moves them into a disabled state and into the Retired Shoes section. None of your data or mileage is lost, and you can always reactivate them.
Q. What happens if I delete a pair of shoes from Gear Tracker?
A. Deleting a pair of shoes will remove them from any previously recorded workouts and mileage accrued on them cannot be recovered. If you have added a pair of shoes that you no longer use or that have reached their recommended lifespan, we suggest retiring them instead.
Q. How will I know when my gear reaches is lifespan?
You’ll receive email notifications for when your gear reaches 50%, 75% and 100% of its lifespan.
Q. Can I purchase new shoes from the app?
A. Yes! We are excited to offer our members access to the complete collection of athletic shoes on Zappos.com. Shop with ease right from your favorite MapMyFitness app. (Support for Android coming soon.)
