Don't remove Gear Tracker

I got a new pair of shoes and when I went to add them on Gear Tracker, I was surprised to find that the Gear Tracker had been dropped from the website! I find Gear Tracker very useful so I know when to retire my shoes. I don't understand how dropping this feature from the website could be considered an improvement. I see now that this topic has been discussed on here for many months, but I didn't know, or even suspect, that this wonderful feature would ever be dropped.

I also just read that we can now find Gear Tracker on our mobile app, so I checked it out. I was surprised to see so many shoe brands there; nearly every brand is there except for the one I wear, 361.

Ok, so now I can add a new pair of shoes on the app, whereas before I could only add it on the website. So I add shoes on the app so that it can show up in the drop down menu on the website. Then I can connect that pair of shoes with my run. Why couldn't I just connect the shoes to my run on my app? There should be a button there, on the app, when I finish my run, that allows me to select my gear.

I guess I just don't understand why the user isn't able to do the same types of things on the website and the app. Why can I only do some things on the app and only other things on the website? And then why remove useful features from the website?

I also lean heavily on the gear tracker functionality. I echo prior comments about being able to add gear to a workout after its completed, i also will miss being able to see how much mileage was logged on retired gear (neither of which you can do on the app). I have also noticed that new models of shoes have not been added to the database (e.g. the ds trainer stops at v22 i think). If you're charging for subscriptions to the site, I'm surprised that removing functionality is considered.

So the banner has changed to "See what's changed on our website". The Learn More page says that Gear Tracker has been retired. I can still select "Gear used" when editing a workout, but it looks like I can't add any new shoes. Is this the plan going forward, or is my information on my current shoes going to disappear in the near future?

Another one for keeping the Gear Tracker. I use the website exclusively and I am not a fan of the app. I actually attempted to use the Gear Tracker in the app and did not like it. The recommendation for my shoes is 300 miles but I generally squeeze more out of them and anything over 300 is not shown in the app like it was on the website.

Please bring the Gear Tracker back to the website. I am already looking for alternative apps.

I miss the gear tracker on my computer. I only keep track of my miles on the computer. Seems like that feature would be available there also the same as on the mobile app.

Is GearTracker still part of this App and Website? This was one of the main reasons I started using this in 2014. I really do not want to go to another App, but this is a huge feature that I heavily rely on. PLEASE DO NOT REMOVE THIS FEATURE FROM THIS APP/WEBSITE.   Thanks Rod

Couldn't agree more with the feedback above.  Gear tracker is one of the only reasons I still use Map My Run vs. the other apps out there that are better at millage tracking.  I am so upset that this was removed.  Please bring it back!

The Gear Tracker was one of the reasons I came back to MapMyRun after switching from Garmin Connect when I started using my Apple Watch for runs,  If anything, I'd been hoping it would become a bit more prominent element of your website rather than an apparent afterthought.  I'll likely start shopping around for another app that helps me keep track of the 5 pairs of shoes I have in rotation to train in.

Dude I literally use everything I could as part of this UnderArmour/MapMyRun environment, they should have called me before making such drastic changes to the website (Don't even get me started on the removal of the daily, weekly, monthly bar graphs).

It seems like they had a minimalist artist making design considerations for, essentially, a statistics website. I don't think there is a statistician on Earth who thinks "less is more". Is losing the gear tracker a server space thing?

So I have UA connected footwear (UA HOVR Velociti 2) that can no longer be tracked via gear tracker on the MMR website... Doesn't UnderArmour own MMR? Was UA consulted about this? Because my incentive to purchase future UA shoes has just decreased.

I usually track my workouts on my watch (Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 - UnderArmour Edition), and everything automatically updates on the website for me so when I got home I could view everything conveniently and compare stats and check out my mileage before a run. I didn't even need to put down what gear I was using because it already knew (what I thought was a benefit of UA gear).

At least the gear tracker is still on the mobile app though. Oh wait, I just checked the phone app, it doesn't have any of my new gear shown (~50 miles)? So it appears the website and the phone app aren't even linked up properly. I feel betrayed.

So I don't know who is responsible for feature development on your website but they failed.  Did they even talk to the users?  First they took away weekly mileage on the Dashboard, now I found out they took away the gear tracker.  FIRE THEM!  What does the web site even offer any more?  I don't run with my phone.  I run with a watch, then upload.  Thank goodness I use Strava, Garmin Connect and MapMyRun.  I learned long ago not to put all my eggs in one basket and you just made me glad I don't.

I see you have been "refining features currently offered on our websites".  Change "refining" to "removing" and you nailed it.

Please bring back the gear tracker! It is one of the features that I use the most. I don't use the phone app!

How can you only keep the Gear Tracker on the mobile app when it didn't work on the mobile app?!?  It only was available if you actually run with the phone and track your course that way.  If you just have a nicely designed route (which is a feature you have, so I'd think you'd expect us to use it), then you can't log the gear.

Seriously, who came up with these changes?  I haven't seen anything new that's good, and EVERYONE is complaining that you took away useful features.

Add my voice to the many protesting the removal of Gear Tracker. That was the only reason I used this site. I will be looking for a different one now.

As other commenters have stated, please bring back gear tracker on the web site.

    • I have used the web site exclusively, since I find it easier to use, and I don't always carry my phone when I run. I know how long the path is that I run along, I don't need to measure it ever time.
    • I can still add and edit workouts on the web site. So far so good.
    • Now I want to add a new pair of shoes. No way to do this on the web site. I guess I need to start using the app.
    • I go to the app, and yes I can add my news shoes. Now let me go into a recent workout and edit it. Wait, I can't add/edit  gear. Back to the web site...

    This is really convoluted.

Not only should you return Gear Tracker to the website, but it needs to be expanded to include other gear besides running shoes.  For example, a bicycle could be included with up to perhaps 3-5 different, user determined options.  I tune mine up every 500 miles, put on a new chain every 3,000 miles, and new tires every 6,000 miles.  It would be nice to know when I have reached these milestones so I can perform the necessary service at that time.  Otherwise, I have to go back through MapMyRide workouts and pull out the calculator to make those determinations.

I would be using gear tracker to track which bicycle I used. Please enable tracking gear such as bicycles on the website.

Gear Tracker is the main reason why I haven't switched completely to Strava.  Removing it really removes the reason I use MapMy at all anymore.

Curious as to whether or not you got any positive feedback on removing gear tracker? Like others, I used MapMyFitness primarily because it did track my miles, especially for running shoes. Was getting frustrated that the shoe database was not being updated but that's OK I could fake a pair of shoes, and put the description of the shoe and date started as the shoe name. Can't really see any other reason to continue to get UnderArmor emails (er, I mean use MapMyFitness). If you bring that back, let us all know.

When considering retain the gear tracker on the website, please look at enhancing.  One dislike that I have is that the drop down list shows all of my shoes, including retired shoes.  I'd like to see only my active shoes.  It used to work like that but it changed a few years back.  I would prefer to only see my active shoes as the list my getting long.

Agree with everyone else who find Gear Tracker to be a vital feature of the MapMyRun experience. Extremely disappointed with this so-called "upgrade". Gear Tracker still isn't easy to use in the app. Frankly, I can't even find how to pick the shoe I actually used for my workout, it just automatically picks the most recent one I entered for me, which is stupid and unhelpful. I know there were issues with Zappos support for GT, but just do it generically. We don't need the magic shoe finder, just let us put our own shoes in with our own descriptions so we know what we are tracking. As many have mentioned, it's not just for fun, it's a key feature for helping us avoid injury.

I echo everything people are saying about gear tracker.  The phone app does not work - I too cannot see my active shoes, and when I tried to add my new pair I accidentally did it twice because I couldn't see the one I added.  I never use the phone app because I run with a watch and don't intend to switch.  Like others the shoe tracker is the main reason I use the site (and pay to do so) and will be switching soon if it does not return.  It actually crossed my mind that maybe UA is trying to kill the whole thing by making it unusable.  Please change it back.

It has been over five months, and this company has not returned Gear Tracker to the "NEW AND IMPROVED" website, and many individuals have asked nicely. I bit the bullet and downloaded the app because that is where Gear Tracker is available for me to keep track of the mileage I put onto my running shoes. Today 8.2.20. I had to retire my New Balance Fresh Foam Zante after going past 500 miles on them. I went to add new gear. Upon typing in NEW BALANCE, I get a set of diabetic shoes as my choice. I use the search engine via the UNDERARMOR app. Typed in Fuel Cell Impulse and NOT ONE SHOE APPEARED! Blank page. I then decided to type in Nike Free. More Blank-ness. If nothing happens by September- I am going to shove my 1020km for the year RUYSA, and then walk away and NGAFFOARA. Have fun with those two acronyms.

Why would you remove the Gear Tracker from the site? One of the most useful features! Please restore!

Looks like they absolutely don't care about the users of their website. No answer or reaction whatsoever - just that dumb "use the app". The gear tracker is the only function that really stands out and is absolutely essential. What is the use if you cannot add a gear after uploading the training from your watch? I don't even have a smartphone where I could use that app and from everything I read above, it is crap anyway. So please don't be stubborn and listen to your users. Bring back that gear tracker to the website!

Sad that you seem to be ignoring pleas to reinstate gear tracker

Luckily the option to uncheck auto-renew on my subscription does work, because I certainly won't be paying for this site any more

My gear cannot be found on the mobile app, but I was always able to find it on the website.  If I can't track my shoes through your website, I will also likely use another app like Strava.  Terrible decision on your part to remove the link on your website!

I use Gear Tracker also and really wish you would make it work with the Apple Watch!!! Just add all runs to the current shoe until I go to the website and change the shoe. Logging in to change a shoe every 300 miles would be much better than having to log in after every run to add gear to my runs in order to keep track of my shoe wear. Thanks

As an AVID user of the website - yes, the website and nothing more -since the very beginnings (I was using the site in late 2005), I have struggled to understand the continual flow of content and features away from the web and to (apparently) the app. From a personal perspective, there is nothing more annoying in the IT world than a developer's assumption of single-use silos. In other words, that all people want their lives fully integrated into their phone leaving behind those "dinosaurs" who prefer sitting in front of a screen and using the analytical tools these sites were intended to be. Just because it CAN be on a phone doesn't mean it HAS to be used solely on a phone.

Once again, Under Armour/MapMyFitness never fails to disappoint their user community! The Gear Tracker is absolutely one of the single greatest advantages you've had when compared to other sites/applications. The ability for the runner to avoid the old pen and paper log was an absolute godsend. And, then... it's gone. Based upon the comments of other users, I decided to take a gander at the app to see if the Gear Tracker within the app was really as poor as it sounded. Astonishingly, it's worse than advertised. So, you have taken away a good product from one platform, not replaced it, and opened a new product on a separate platform that is worthless. Huh?

Considering you still have the code and structure from the web-based gear tracker, why just not integrate it back into the web model?
