UA Connected Footwear gives runners the chance to run untethered, without phones or devices. No more waiting for your watch to find a GPS signal, no more worrying about whether or not your devices are charged. Just put on your shoes and go for a run. The shoe will automatically record your workout and send the data to your MapMy app via Bluetooth (when your shoe is awake and in range of your phone).
Auto Start is a feature that is enabled by default, once your shoes have paired for the first time and your firmware has been updated.
To enable/disable the Auto Start feature, open the MapMy application and tap the "UA Sync" icon in the upper right corner to open a list of available Apps & Devices. Alternatively, you can select "Connect Apps & Devices" from the app's menu.
From the "Apps & Devices" page, select your shoes from the top of the list, under "Recent Apps & Devices." If your shoes are not yet connected, you will need to connect them to the app before you are able to turn on/off the Auto Start feature. For issues connecting, visit our Help Center article on connection troubleshooting, found here.
After selecting UA Connected Footwear from the "Apps & Devices" list, tap the " Settings" button located near the bottom of the page.
If your shoes are successfully connected to the MapMy app, you will be able to toggle Auto Start to the "on" position. If your shoes are not connected, this feature will remain greyed out until you re-establish a connection.
Once Auto Start is enabled, you can leave your phone at home and go on an untethered run. Happy trails to you!
Important: In order for your shoes to detect your workout without the accompaniment of a partner app, such as MapMyRun, you must start running with a pace faster than 11 min/mile. Runs that start with a pace slower than 11 min/mile will not be recorded by your shoes and will therefore not appear in your MapMy app.
If your average pace is slower than 11 min/mile, we recommend that you take your phone with you and start your workout using a MapMy app. You'll still get all the benefits of having smart shoes but without the risk of losing a workout.
Syncing Untethered Runs
After completing an untethered run, you may wish to view your workout stats immediately in your MapMy app. It is important to note, however, that your untethered run may not automatically sync to MapMy upon completion. You can choose to manually sync the workout or wait for it to auto-upload within 24 hours.
To manually sync your runs, open the MapMy app, navigate to the "Apps and Devices" page > tap the smart shoe in your list of "Recent Apps & Devices" > press the red “Sync” button if the sync process doesn't initiate automatically.
Once your workouts have synced, you’ll get a notification from the app. To double-check that your workouts synced successfully, you can view the “Last Synced” date and time on your Shoe Summary screen.
If you record a run using the Auto Start feature (untethered, without the use of a companion application), you will still receive the following stats:
- Start/stop time
- Average pace
Note: you will not receive a map of your route or any elevation or cadence data for an untethered workout. In order to receive these stats, you must run with your UA Connected Footwear connected to a companion MapMy app. To learn more, check out Running With Your Phone.
You can view the workout details in the same way, once the workout syncs to the application. Remember, the shoe only syncs once every 24 hours, so you may have to initiate a manual sync to view stats immediately after completion.
How many runs can my shoes store without syncing to the app?
The shoe can store up to 5 runs before you need to sync your data with MapMy. The maximum limit per workout file is 6 hours or 47 units of measurement, which would be either 47 kilometers (metric users) or 47 miles (imperial users).
What happens if I begin a run using Auto Start and then stop briefly for a break?
If you’re running using Auto Start (untethered running) and stop running (i.e. stop moving or start walking) for 3 or more minutes, the shoe will end your workout based on the moment you started to walk. You can always begin running again and the shoe will start recording a new workout. This means that 1 workout may appear as 2 in your MapMy app.
If you’re using a companion app, such as MapMyRun or MapMyWalk, your workout will continue recording, regardless of pace, until you end the workout on the app.
